The two music video conventions that I am choosing to discuss are the different types of shots involved, and also the setting.
In a music video, the different angles shown when shooting are used for several reasons. They use them to not make the video feel boring as if it was shot at the same angle all the time it would begin to feel like you have already seen it. I gives the video more variation into what they can do for an effect. Music videos are also shown at different angles so we can see a different perspective on things. This would most likely be done if the video involved a story as it could present the different events and feelings. The variated camera angles and shots give the video more excitement and a different perspective on things from the audiences view.
The setting in a music video is also very important if you want it to be successful. If there isn't visually anything to look at then the point of the music video is pointless. The audience want to watch something and feel engaged with the music in a different way. The setting is important as it can give a chance for the artist to show what the song represents in a visual way rather than through sound. The more interesting and making sure there is always something being shown, the more the viewer will like the song and video. It keeps them engaged and wanting to keep listening to the song therefore, the setting during a music video is vital for it succeed.

Music video conventions
All music videos follow certain conventions, which make the video come across better. Some of these conventions include: different shot types, the pace of video, costumes within the video, settings, and the movements or gestures that the actors/singers use. These conventions tend to link with the meaning of the song, the lyrics, genre and what type of artist the song is written by.

Peer/self evaluations
From the feedback I was given, I learnt a few things that I did particularly well whilst also finding out what I could improve on. The uniqueness and originality of my logo's were something that was picked up on quite a bit. Also, the way that the design of each logo related to the name of the radio station was another positive that was written. However, an improvement that was mentioned a fair bit was that I should make the genre of music more clear in the design of the logo's. Another thing I learned was that I could possibly make a few of the designs more professional as there are details that looked a bit messy.
File formats of final logos
File Format:Buzz
I would like to save this as a .PDF file (Portable Document Format), for various reasons. As the logo uses lines, curves and other shapes it would be helpful
as a .pdf file also uses this to show when it saves an image.
Especially for a business such as OW! Music, it is important to be able
to show their designs on various platforms such as, computers, tablets,
phones etc therefore I would again chose the .pdf file as it doesn't
need any special program to open the design up. As the.pdf file stores
the image quite small, it can then be opened on any system and is easier
to transfer via the internet/e-mail. From all of these advantages, OW!
Music would have the ability to use it in letterheads, leaflets,
letters, on their website and on some merchandise. This is due to the
mathematical methods the .pdf file uses and can therefore be used and
produced without the change in quality from the design. Finally, another
advantage of using .pdf file format would be that it can be sent and
displayed as a 'read only' file which would mean that nobody could take
and edit their logo without their permission.

First attempt of ident
The was our first attempt of shooting our ident. We used a still camera
so we could get an idea of how the flags would turn out. We also used
lots of pink card and put them together as opposed to using the green
screen, this is because we were experimenting different ways of filming
our ident.

Corrected logo evaluation of LOCK logo
What genre did you think the name represented, and why?
The genre I gave to this logo was fitness and workout music. This is the type of music that people listen to whilst at the gym and would listen to get them in the zone and keep them motivated. These are mainly made up of anthems and old school songs from CD's such as, the Ministry of Sound. These songs are upbeat and last quite a long time. The reason why I thought of this genre is because I was imagining someone being 'locked' into a song whilst at the gym and in their workout zone.
Who did you think the audience is and why?
The target audience for this radio station would be between the ages of 17-35. I think these are the ages where you are most active and want your body to be in its best shape. These are the ages that you see at the gym quite a lot as younger teens and children wouldn't need to to go to the gym and workout as they're still growing at a fast rate. On the other hand, older people aren't seen at the gym very often and probably wouldn't be listening to this type of music.
How did you aim to appeal to that audience?
I wanted to try and make the logo link in with the name of the station and create an image that looks original and clever. I immediately thought of a safe with a lock image being used as the 'O' when writing LOCK on the logo. The reason for this was because I thought it linked in well with the name and music the station plays.
I started off by using the rectangle tool to draw the outline of the safe. I then used the paint bucket tool to fill the safe with a dark grey colour. I then began to write out the word LOCK using the text tool. I missed out the letter O when writing this due to the fact that I was going to create and use an image that looked like a lock in its place. I edited the text so the letters were yellow by highlighting them and using the colour palette tool. I wanted to insert a dial for the safe so I used the circular tool to draw the features needed for it. For this feature I had to zoom in as the lines on the dial were very small and I had to place them neatly therefore needed to see them clearly. I used the line tool to draw these lines and just duplicated the layer each tike so they were the same size. The way I made the lock was a bit more complicated. I first drew an oval and cut it in half, deleting one side, using the rectangle tool + DELETE. I then paint bucketed it yellow and this was the bottom half of the image. For the top half, I again drew out an oval and cut it in half and used the top half this time. I then used the pen tool do delete the parts I didn't need. When I was left with the shape I wanted I paint bucketed it yellow and joined it with the other half. For the small detail within the image I used the rectangle tool and used the paint bucket tool to paint it black. I had to drag this layer over the rest so it was visible.
Once I had finished I thought the logo looked good however I thought the features on it looked quite messy and could come together more with the text. I moved the dial towards the text more so it didn't look as out of place and I brought the text "Radio" up towards the word LOCK so it linked in more.
To make sure all three logo's are a family I have the word 'radio' written in the same font, colour and size underneath each logo. I thought the font looked professional, slick and is easily recognisable.

How did you aim to appeal to that audience?
I wanted the logo to look as if when you listen to the music it locks and keeps you in your workout zone. I wanted to show a dominant and strong log whilst at the same time, showing the fitness and workout side to it. I think the lock and safe used in the logo is appealing as it shows the dominance and strength, which is what people want to achieve at the gym; strength. I also thought the colour of the lock which is bright would catch the eye of people, and the bold font used would stand out.
Who did you think would be the stations' competitors and why?
I thought the type of stations that would be competing with LOCK would be KISSTORY on KISS, and HEART. These stations play the same type of music that LOCK would play, and the people who need motivation or an upbeat song will listen to. I think HEART would target females and KISSTORY targets males so it would be a good opportunity to fulfill the needs of both males and females, and become more popular. I also think the ages of the other two stations vary whereas LOCKs' target audience is aimed at fairly young to middle aged people.

What 'look' did you want to create and why?
I wanted to try and create an original and clever look to the logo that at the same time, appealed to the target audience whilst relating to the genre of music it plays. I thought the lock, safe and bold letters linked nicely together as it showed what music is played on the channel and also what the music will do to you(lock you into your workout zone). I think the dark colours bring out the dominance again and the sparks of bright colours around the logo can be used to catch the eye of people. I think the look is best for the aspect of it locking you into your zone which gets the best out of you, whilst also giving you some idea of what music the station plays.

To make sure all three logo's are a family I have the word 'radio' written in the same font, colour and size underneath each logo. I thought the font looked professional, slick and is easily recognisable.
What did you think was the most successful part of you logo?
I thought the most successful part of the logo was the slickness and originality of it all. The detail added to the logo is good and links in well with the name of the station and the genre of music it plays.
Did your audience think it suited the genre?
Once my audience had seen and given me feedback on my LOCK radio design, I noticed that they couldn't quite recognise the genre of music that was associated with this station. They also thought that the features on the logo could be a bit more organised rather than having certain things in random places e.g. the safe dial. Other than that, they thought it looked unique and was cleverly designed to suit the name of the station and to appeal to the target audience.
What skills have you developed most when creating this logo?
The skills I have developed whilst creating my logo is mainly my photoshop skills, along with my skills to observe and analyse what I could do to improve the design. The shape tool and line tool was used quite often during this particular design as there were features I had to be quite specific with and pay close attention to. The paint bucket was another tool I used quite a lot as the various colours on the design had to be adjusted to what I thought looked best. I developed my own ideas and analysis from the feedback where I then improved my design to make it look better.
How does your work compare to other, similar logos?
My logo design doesn't compare to many other radio logos at the moment however the colours and shapes used are similar to several other radio logos at the moment. TalkSport and Gold radio both use dark coloured boxes around the text of their logo, which is similar to mine. The text is also quite big and bold in my logo which is what the TalkSport and Gold radio logos consist of. These features on a design will make the it stand out, which is what I think makes mine a good logo.
What could you still do to make your work even better? Why?
I think I could perhaps add more detail and features onto my logo to make it look more interesting and professional. As the logo is pretty dark coloured, I think I could add a few more colours to make sure it doesn't look too boring and dull to look at. If any logo doesn't look interesting and doesn't have any bright colours then I don't think it will catch the eye or have an affect on the person viewing it. Doing these things will also appeal to the target audience more and make the logo more successful.

Corrected logo evaluation of VIP logo
What genre did you think the name represented, and why?
The genre I gave to this logo is pop. These tend to be the type of songs that are in the top 10 and can appeal to quite a varied audience. Even though the traditional word VIP is associated with a posh and formal person, currently most VIP's are very modern and young. This is the reason whyI chose pop music as this logo's genre instead of perhaps classical or jazz. In the modern day we see VIP's going out and partying or having a fun time and therefore, the radio station named 'VIP' should also have a fun and party type sound to it.
Who did you think the audience is, and why?
I thought the the target audience for this radio station would be the ages varying from 8-40 year olds, and for both males and females. Pop music covers a wide audience and can come across songs that perhaps children like to have at their party, but also adults like to have at theirs. This could be due to the fun aspect of it and the way pop songs are normally lively and catchy.
How did you aim to appeal to that audience?
I wanted people to look at the logo and think that it's quite cool and lively at the same time, which again is in relation to the pop music. I wanted to have a sort of adult feel to it but at the same time make it suitable for children by not looking too plain and boring. I used a few different colours and inserted a few extra features that I thought could appeal to my wide target audience. I also tried to relate the logo to pop music and the fact that this music is mostly found at party's therefore should have a sophisticated look to it but on the other hand, have a fun and playful image also.
Who did you think would be the stations' competitors and why?
The stations I thought would be the most competitive with VIP in terms of the type of music that is played are; Capital and Choice during the day. The reason being is that they also play quite a lot of pop music and almost have the same target audience, in being young teenagers to middle aged adults. I think Capital is more based towards women, and Choice is a mixture therefore, VIP would need to stick to the mixture and make it clear if they want to compete with these stations.
What 'look' did you want to create and why?
I wanted to try and create a mixed look with my logo that appealed to all the ages and genders I think my radio station would be targeting. I wanted to show the pop aspect to it with a professional, but at the same time, fun and friendly look which would appeal to the target audience. I think the colours used and the way it is set out can catch the eye of the younger audience, whilst the slick and 'important' look to the logo can appeal to the older audience. The type of must that VIP plays would be perfect for these age variated party's that play the fun and lively music.
How did you create that look + use technical terminology?
I wanted to try and make the logo appeal to all the age groups, but at the same time make it unique and clever. I thought of using the red carpet straight away and I wanted to include the ropes that are at the entrance of the carpet. I also thought of using the letters (VIP) as people which brought me to my first idea.
I wanted to make the font quite large so I could use them as people, so I chose a thicker font than the rest. I then used the edit text icon to change the font to black. I then wanted to create the red carpet so I chose the rectangle tool and drew out the size I wanted it to be. I then used the paint bucket tool to turn the rectangle red. I rotated the rectangle so it was vertical using the CMD+T option, then placed the letter in the order I wanted. I then drew out the poles using the paint brush tool and adjusted the thickness of it so it was small enough. For the balls on top of the poles I used the circular shape tool to draw them out and then paint bucketed them yellow, to try and make a gold look to it. I then decided to only use the letter 'I' as a person and so placed it at the beginning of the red carpet where he was going to be the person who opens the ropes to let the VIP's on. I drew arms and hands out for him using the brush tool, and decided to try and give it a suit and bow tie. I used the lasso tool to draw out a suit blazer shape within the letter. I then filled that shape white using the paint bucket tool so it looked like a white shirt and blazer. I imported a picture of a bow tie from the internet and made it very small using the CMD+T action. As I needed to make it particularly small, I zoomed in using the zoom tool so I could adjust and move the bow tie to the right position.
However, once I had finished the logo I didn't think it quite matched up to the other logo's especially in size. Where my other two logo's were horizontally shaped, this one was vertical so stood out quite a lot. I also thought that the poles and hands I drew on the 'I' were messy and didn't look very professional. I then deleted the hands, arms, ropes and balls on top of the ropes just by clicking on each layer and pressing the 'backspace' bar. I then decided to rotate the red carpet horizontally again by using the CMD+T button and put each of the letters inside the red carpet. I kept the features inside the 'I' as I thought it looked original. I thought once I had cleaned it up a bit and made it more of the 'family' then it would be more affective. I also added a few bright yellow stars which are symmetrically added around the logo because I thought it would add more detail and a difference in colour.
To make sure all three logo's are a family I have the word 'radio' written in the same font, colour and size underneath each logo. I thought the font looked professional, slick and is easily recognisable.
What did you think was the most successful part of you logo?
The thing I found most successful about my logo would probably have to b the features on the letter 'I' as it relates to the VIP aspect and gives the logo a bit of originality. I also liked the red carpet idea because it can appeal to all the target audiences.
Did your audience think it suited the genre?
When my audience had seen and given feedback to me for this logo they thought the concept of it was good and also liked the originality of the logo. They thought the way it linked with the radio stations name was clever, and thought the features on it related to it well. However, they said the genre of music played on the station wasn't that clear and could be improved to show this more clearly.
What skills have you developed most when creating this logo?
I have developed some skills over the time I have been creating this logo. I now have a good understanding of how to use the features on Photoshop and how to improve my logo by editing it. I have also learned how to look at a piece of work and know which parts that I have to improve, and change in order to meet the criteria and be successful.
How does your work compare to other similar logos?
Again, I don't think this logo can compare much with other logos as it is pretty unique. However, there are certain aspects of this logo such as the colours used at the shapes that are involved that share a similarity with other logos. Heart and Kerrang! radio share the same colours of red in their logo whilst Kerrang! also have the same shapes that are included in my VIP design.
What could you still do to make your work even better? Why?
There is one major factor of my design that I think I could improve on, and that is to make the genre of music that the station plays more clear to the viewer. I could also possibly add more colours or stick to a specific colour scheme to make it visually more appealing. I could add pictures or designs that resemble the genre of music into the logo to make it more obvious to the target audience what music they will be listing to if tuned into the station.
The genre I gave to this logo is pop. These tend to be the type of songs that are in the top 10 and can appeal to quite a varied audience.
