What genre did you think the name represented, and why?
The genre I gave to this logo was the club/hot hits music. This is the type of music that you would hear in clubs and with your friends getting ready to go out for the night. I thought of this genre when I heard 'Buzz' because this type of music gives you a buzz and makes you very lively. The two z's at the end of Buzz gives the station a different and youthful sort of vibe, which suits the music associated with the station well. The target audience for this radio station is for over u18's as these are the type of people who will be listening to the music at these clubs and nights out.
Who did you think the audience is and why?
The target audience for this radio station is from ages 18-33, especially males, as these are the people more likely to be clubbing and going out. These youthful adults would want to listen to music that gets them buzzing and gets them in the mood for going out and enjoying their night with the music.
How did you aim to appeal to that audience?
I wanted the audience to see the logo and think it's quite quirky and vibrant, which relates to people's nights out and clubs. I wanted to be different and use different colours to what the original theme of the logo is (bumble bee). I used original colours at the beginning of the logo and a bright, quirky colour at the end of the logo. This represents a night out because at the beginning of the night it is quite lively however once you get to the end its much more loud and a lot different.
Who did you think would be the stations' competitors and why?
I think that the competitors for Buzz would stations such as, Kisstory (Kiss) and capital on a Friday or Saturday night. The reason for this is because they play the same type of music on these days, whilst also having the same target audience. Although, those two stations would have also included females in theirs. However, I reckon Buzz would stand out more and appeal to the target audience as its main focus is males.
What 'look' did you want to create and why?
I wanted to try and create a clever, different and trendy look for my logo which shows my target audience that the station plays club anthems and lively tunes. Doing this would appeal to the 18-33 year olds that like going out to clubs and having fun nights out. I wanted the logo to have a quirky and unique look to it because this is what would interest my target audience and engage them with the station. Also, I wanted to make the logo look quite normal at the start with a bit of quirkiness that's why I made the bee's eye look swirly; this shows the beginning of the night. As the night goes on, things tend to get more wild so I made the end of the logo completely different to the rest of the colour scheme and inserted a vibrant colour which shows the wildness and change. The type of music that Buzz plays would be perfect for a club and also when the guys are getting ready to go out and get them hyped up and in the mood.
How did you create that look + use technical terminology?
I wanted to try and make the logo unique and appealing. I started to think of things that relate to the world buzz then feed off of that once I got an idea (bumble bee). I wanted to have something that I hadn't seen before, whilst also having something that relates and appeals to the target audience.
I didn't want to have a complicated or fancy font because I didn't think my design would work otherwise. However, I wanted quite a bold and masculine font that stands out and gives the logo a similarity to the target audience. For the first two letters I used the colour palette to make them the traditional colours of a bumble bee (black and yellow), then for the last two Z's I used a bright red. The bright red shows the end of the night I talked about earlier. I also thought to have a big and bold font as the first letter, b, was going to be the wings on the bee design.
I then used the circular shape tool to draw out the bee design, and make it yellow with the paint bucket tool. Next, I used the rectangle tool to draw the black lines on the bee's body and paint bucket them black. However, I came across a problem when the edge of the black rectangle went over the bee's body and out of the logo. I had to use the paint brush tool to paint, in white, over the edge that was showing so it blended into the background and didn't look unprofessional. I had to re-do the amount of stripes there were on the bee's body because they weren't all the same size and it didn't look very professional. To fix this I reduced the amount of stripes by deleting the layers, and made them all the same size by duplicating the first rectangle three times. To draw the legs, stinger and antennas on the bee I used a black paint brush tool. At first, I thought it looked quite messy so I zoomed into the logo and re-did it so I could make the lines neater. To draw the red swirls in the bee's eye I, again, used the paint brush tool and reduced the size of the brush so I could fit it within the space given.
To make sure all three logo's are a family I have the word 'radio' written in the same font, colour and size underneath each logo. I thought the font looked professional, slick and is easily recognisable.
What did you think was the most successful part of you logo?
I thought that the bumble bee design and how the letter B linked in well, acting as the wings, was a successful part to my logo.
Did your audience think it suited the genre?
Once my audience had seen my logo and had given feedback i noticed that they all thought it had a professional look to it and was very original. They said everything looked fine in terms of it appealing to the target audience, whilst it also links in well with the genre of music. However, they said the genre of music that is played on this station could be a bit more obvious and showed in a way that can be instantly noticed by the viewer.
What skills have you developed most when creating this logo?
I have developed some skills over the time I have been creating this logo. I now have a good understanding of how to use the features on Photoshop and how to improve my logo by editing it. I have also learned how to look at a piece of work and know on which parts that I have to improve and change in order to meet the criteria and be successful.
How does your work compare to other similar logos?
I don't think my logo design can compare to other logos as it is original and haven't seen logo like it yet. However, a specific feature with this logo could spark a similarity with other radio logos. I think the bold black font can compare to the BBC and Absolute radio designs. Both of these stations' designs have a bold black font for the name of their radio station. I think the design of the bee is something that makes this logo seem different from the rest because from all the designs I have seen from other stations, most of them use shapes and not actual pictures of things.
What could you still do to make your work even better? Why?
I think I could improve my logo even further by adding more detail or other colours to it. I could also add something else that would relate to the genre of music the station is associated with. Doing these things could catch the eye of people a bit more and improve the originality of the logo whist giving the viewer more to look at.

Planned Ident Series
The first planned ident is targeted at young adults that enjoy watching music and chat shows, taking this into account our first ident involves some humour along with focusing on the two countries that are involved with the programme. The channel plays entertaining and vibey shows and the ident reflects this by creating ideas that will have such an effect on the audience they will not want to take their eyes off the screen. This is shown by constantly having props move across the screen and the background music being dark and mysterious.
The second ident also takes into account the views of the target audience and has a similar effect by replacing the countries flags with buildings that represent the two countries. However, the second ident focuses more on the musical side of the channel, as the background plays similar songs that will feature during the upcoming programmes. This really captures the target audience well as this will appeal to them directly and also leave them wanting more.
The final ident also takes into account the views of the target audience and has a similar effect by replacing the countries flags with foods that represent the two countries. However, the third ident focuses more on the comical side of the channel, this is because we hear laughing in the background and we also see funny props used throughout the ident. This appeals to the target audience as they are able to get a feel of what the channel stands for and what will be shown in the upcoming programmes.

Storyboards and logo

The two representatives from this ident are two famous British and
American foods, fish and chips and a burger. There will be a green
screen behind the two foods as there will be a constantly changing
background. During the logo being seen there will be a blue background
as this helps each ident link together and this blends well with colours
from the logo.
The two representatives in this ident are an American flag and a British
flag. There will be a green screen behind these as the background will
be different outside settings. Whilst the logo and on screen graphics
appear there will be a light blue background as this links with the
colours on the flags and links each ident together.
Sound and music decisions
Ident 1
During the first ident there will be an action type sound which will be played whilst the flags come closer together, this is because it looks as if they are going to fight, so an action type sound will be suitable. After this both flags collide resulting in a bang noise being heard, this sound will be created during after effects. Before the narrator speaks the mood of the music changes, this will be upbeat to keep the audience interested. In a deep and unique voice the narrator will say 'where the best of British music and American sitcoms come together' as well as 'the grid'.
The action sound which we have chosen is 'nerves' by
The sound whilst the logo is moving is 'cut and run'
Ident 2
During the second ident there will also be an action type sound which will be played whilst the buildings come closer together, this is because they will fight meaning that there will need to be a mysterious sound being played. After this the buildings collide resulting in a crash sound, which will be made during after effects. Before the narrator speaks the music will change into an exciting and vibrant track, this helps cover a wider range of target audience as this is a different genre to the type of music played in the programmes. The narrator will then say 'The Grid!'
The action sound will be 'take a chance'
The sound whilst the logo is moving is 'all this'
Ident 3
During the third ident there will be an action type sound which will be played whilst the plates come together, this is because this will draw the audiences attention straight to the screen as the music is very dark and exciting. After the plates collide there will be a loud bang noise, which will be made during after effects. The music changes after the bang noise is heard, this then changes to a funny upbeat track as the constant change means that the audience will not get bored. The narrator will then say 'the grid'
The action sound will be 'the descent'
The sound whilst the logo is moving is 'vanes'
This music decision is included in the 3rd ident. This relates to the ident as we wanted to create a relaxing and smooth vibe at the beginning then once our features start, change it to some more dramatic music that engages with the viewer. Even though this music is slow, it sounds quite young and has a electronic vibe to it. This is good as it can relate to our young target audience.
This music decision is also included in the 3rd ident. The piece is involved when the main things start to happen in the ident and creates a dramatic atmosphere from the calmed one which was previously in the ident (Vanes). This relates to the target audience as it creates a dramatic and interesting atmosphere which engages and interests the viewers.
This music decision is involved in the 2nd ident. As the ident is quite fast paced and has quite a few things going on from the start, we have chose this quite calm and less hectic piece to fit in with the theme. Even though this is genre of music it is fast paced so it doesn't seem out of place with the ident. This relates to the target audience as it is still keeping the audience engaged and interested even though it doesn't have a dramatic sound.

Role descroptions
Role description: The role descriptions given will have the same affect
on all three of our idents when making them.
Director:
Lewis and Nicole
Camera:
Lewis
Lighting:
Nicole
Sound:
Nicole
Editing:
Lewis and Nicole
Director: I think we would
both be good for that role because we could both decide on what would look and
sound best during the ident. If we are both directors we can put our ideas into
action and decide where they would work best, rather than one person saying
where everything goes and when.
Camera: I think Lewis would
be good for controlling the camera as he has worked with filming before, and in
previous media lessons has been the cameraman during the task. He is also
confident with using the different features that are on the camera and using
the tripod whilst filming. When planning
the ident’s he put forward some ideas on how it could be shot and at what
angles also.
Lighting: I think Nicole
would be good for controlling the lighting as she thought of the ideas in how
the lighting would be used during the ident. This way she can use the lighting
to the effect that she would want it to.
Also, as Lewis would be controlling the camera during film he wouldn’t
be able to control the lighting at the specific times that it is needed.
Sound: Nicole would also be
good for the sound during the ident. She has tested the sound effects and music
on the different websites given to us and decided what sounds best and which
would be more effective for what time. Lewis would also have trouble, as he
would be controlling the camera whilst the sound comes on.
Editing: I think we would
both be good in the role of editing. We can both have our input on how it
should look at the end, as we both decided on the ideas and the way the ident
should be presented before we filmed it. Like the director role, we can both
have our ideas and decide what would look the best and what would be more
effective. This way we can both have an input on the ident and both are happy
on how it has come out.

How the logos fit together
How do you the logos fit together? How are they a family? How do they help with OW! music's brand identity?
I think that each of the logos fit in together, even though they don't have the most obvious similarities.

Lock radio logo screenshots

- I first used the rectangle tool to draw the safe then paint bucketed it dark grey.
- I then used the text tool to to draw in the text and colour it yellow.
- Next I used the circular tool to draw the lock and used the line tool to draw the detail on.
- I again used the circle tool to draw out the lock within the text, and paint bucketed it yellow.
- I also used the rectangle tool to cut the top bit off using delete.
- I then used the lasso tool to cut off the bit I didn't want, to form the top of the lock.
- Again I used the rectangle tool to draw in the two rectangle shapes within the yellow lock. I used paint bucket to fill them in the colour they are.
- Finally, I used the text tool to write out 'radio' and then edited it to match it with the theme of the other three logos.

VIP radio logo
How I made it:
- Firstly, I made the red carpet using the rectangle tool then paint bucketed it red.
- I then used the line tool to draw the black poles. I customised it to make the line thicker.
- I also used the line tool to draw the red rope, whilst using the circular tool to draw the golden top on the poles.
- I used the text tool to draw the V, I, P and changed the size and font to make it bigger.
- I then again, used the circle tool to draw the black circles (hands) on either side of the I.
- I then used the lasso tool to cut out some of the black within the I to make it look like a suit.
- The black buttons within the I were made from the circle tool and paint bucketed.
- The bow tie at the top of the I was from the internet and i used CMD + T to reduce its size bit keep the dimensions the same.
- Finally, I used the text tool to draw 'radio' where I then edited it to match the theme of the three logos.
